Between two lakes just north of Filipstad is one of Sweden's best preserved mining environments, with a rare mineral richness and more than 400 years of industrial history. The story is seated between mines and foundry, mining pits, monumental piles of waste rock and in John Ericssongården's lush garden at the shore of Hyttsjön. Welcome to the mining district Bergslagen in Värmland!

Tiberg´s promontory

Hugo Viktor Tiberg was the managing director from 1875-1913. He was very interested in science and the Tiberg Museum houses his mineral collection for which he received several prizes. The nature reserve, located right next to it, Tiberg's promontory, got its name after him.

The reserve's softly shaped and slightly undulating flower meadows are characteristic of the area. Between the meadows lie rocky and block-rich hills with sparse tree and shrub vegetation. In the eastern part of the reserve there are a couple of old fish ponds that are framed by lush deciduous forests. At the far north, a promontory stands out in Hyttsjön, it was created during the production period 1910-1925 when the skarn (stone debris after the mining) was driven out into the lake.

A total of seven different orchid species are found in the reserve; Twayblade, Lady´s slipper, Fragrant Orchis (Gymnadenia), Dark-red Helleborine, Frog orchid, Heath spotted-orchid and Lesser butterfly-orchid. In addition to orchids there are other plants as Common milkwort, Spreading bellflower, Cowslip, Wonder violet and Field gentian and several other species unusual for the county.
